The liver is responsible for over 500 functions in our body. These functions include bile production, blood glucose management, glycogen storage, enzyme and hormone production, elimination of dozens of toxins, viruses, bacteria, absorption of vitamins, minerals… a diseased liver or one that does not function optimally is the beginning of several chronic diseases. Liver diseases are very common in America in fact 400,000 people suffer from cirrhosis of the liver each year in the United States (NIH, 1994) and 2,000,000 North Americans also suffer from significant liver problems caused for example by excessive alcohol consumption.
Cigarettes, coffee, fatty foods, overeating or drinking alcohol, the effects of certain medications or drugs. These are all part of the list of things that can cause what is commonly called a "liver crisis."
MORE SERIOUS DISEASES:
You should know that in reality, liver crises do not exist. When the liver is affected, it is because we are suffering from more serious diseases such as hepatitis and not a simple passing crisis. Nevertheless, it is responsible for many functions of our body and if it goes out of order, several related symptoms may appear such as fatigue, sleep problems, itchy skin, greater sensitivity to cold, asthma, etc.
THE GALLBLADDER:
The attacks themselves are more likely to be due to a malfunction of the gallbladder (which often causes pain in the right shoulder, stomach aches, vomiting), stomach ulcers or gastric reflux (often relieved by taking medication) or intestinal problems (which manifest as gas, abdominal pain, aerophagia, belching, diarrhea or constipation).
ENGORGED LIVER: SYMPTOMS:
However, without being in crisis, the liver can be congested. We will then feel digestion problems, a feeling of heaviness in the liver region (under the ribs on the right side). In this case, we should avoid eating certain foods such as dishes in sauce, fried foods, fatty meats, white sugar, foods containing additives, alcohol, at least for a few days, or even a few weeks, until the digestive functions resume their work properly. When you drink alcohol, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and all the unpleasant effects that go with it.
TREATMENT; HEPATIK DEFENSE:
To take care of him when he is sick, we suggest of course monitoring his diet, but also taking Hépatik defense at a rate of 1 to 2 capsules 3 x per day for 4 to 6 weeks and putting a hot water bottle on his stomach to activate the proper functioning of the liver.
Choline:
Long considered a B vitamin, choline was recognized in 1998 by the American authorities as being rather an essential nutrient. It is the precursor of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that plays a particularly important role in muscle control and memory. It is also used in the synthesis of lecithin (or phosphatidylcholine), an essential constituent of cell membranes and a component of bile that promotes the digestion of lipids.
Inositol:
The level of inositol in the nerves declines with age, as does the speed of reflexes. Considered the vitamin of the golden age, inositol or vitamin B7 is a true tonic for nutrition, the nervous system and the liver. It mobilizes fats by preventing their accumulation. It promotes phase 2 of liver detoxification.
NAC:
(N-Acetyl-Cysteine) NAC is the precursor to glutathione peroxidase one of the most powerful antioxidants in the human body. NAC protects the liver from free radicals, drug side effects and many other environmental poisons.
Milk thistle :
Milk thistle has been used for over 2000 years in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine to treat the liver. Its virtues are numerous; antidiabetic, anticancer, cholesterol and triglyceride regulator, powerful detoxifier, regenerator of liver cells and its famous cytochromes p 450 of phase 1 detoxification.
The artichoke:
Artichoke reduces cholesterol levels and restores the balance between LDL and HDL, it promotes efficient digestion and increased elimination of toxins. It is also hepatoprotective and is also choleretic or cholagogue (increases bile flow) .
